Chinese New Year 2012 ~ Year of the Dragon

Today marks the first day of the Chinese New Year, the year of the dragon and aside from giving me a tremendous sense of new beginning and reflection over the last 12 months, I also have this grand desire to get myself a dragon tattoo! (ok ok it could also have something to do with the fact I'm halfway through reading the book "girl with the dragon tattoo" and fascinated with the main character because otherwise I am arguably pretty conservative!)

All of that aside, This week is symbolic for a number of reasons, In China the day is celebrated with decadent red displays (red giving protection and power), traditional dances and headlining acts. And since it’s the Year of the Dragon, this also stirs up plenty of excitement on its own. Regarded as the mightiest of signs in Chinese astrology, the dragon symbolizes traits such as ambition, prominence, passion and success.

The dragon itself is viewed as a powerful king made from multiple parts of animals including the tiger, fish, snake and eagle. According to the Chinese zodiac, individuals born in the Year of the Dragon tend to be powerful and the day symbolizes happiness and luck.

How is this relevant to Zuri you ask?
Well with Zuri's decadent decor of rich red and gold we will be celebrating with a week of fantastic food and fabulous entertainment.

Tuesday is our Poker night so alot of luck would be especially helpful today, Wednesday is All you can eat sushi which celebrates a feast amoung friends, our own Australia day is celebrated with our very own resident musical geniuses Ben Hopkins and Matt Kitshon and finally we have the talented Dj Alex Dimitriades (also known for his roles in "underbelly" and the most recent "the slap") entertaining us on Friday night...the week is chocka block full of celebration and excitement...the Aussie way! Happy New Year everyone ;)
